CKEditor 5 Introduces Self-Service Licensing and Version Override for Drupal
Recent updates to several CKEditor 5 modules for Drupal bring new features, performance enhancements, and greater flexibility for users. Central to this release is the introduction of self-service licensing in CKEditor 5 v44.0.0, allowing Drupal users to purchase and manage licenses that fit their specific project needs. This streamlined approach provides control, transparency, and ease of access to CKEditor 5’s premium features.
Alongside self-service licensing, these updates include support for custom link attributes in the CKEditor 5 Plugin Pack, RTC Permissions and Converters V2 in the Premium Features module, and full compatibility with Drupal 11 in the CKEditor LTS module. Together, these enhancements empower users to integrate advanced tools like collaborative editing, real-time commenting, and version tracking into their Drupal projects, improving workflows and maintaining control over their content editing environments.

CKEditor 5 Version Override Submodule
The CKEditor 5 Version Override Submodule allows you to manually upgrade the CKEditor 5 version in your Drupal project to access the latest editor capabilities. To enable this submodule, install or upgrade the Premium Features Module to version 1.3.4. Once activated, you can upgrade CKEditor 5 to version 44.0.0, unlocking the new Self-Service Licensing feature. For more details, consult the Premium Features Module Configuration Guide.
With the release of Drupal Core versions 10.4 and 11.1, CKEditor 5 version 44.0.0 is now included in Drupal Core. As a result, the CKEditor 5 Version Override Submodule is no longer needed to upgrade the editor in these versions. However, for sites on Drupal 10.3 and 11.0.x that are not yet upgraded to the current version, the Override Submodule remains essential for accessing CKEditor 5 version 44.0.0 and enabling the new self-service licensing features.
Important: Test Before Deploying
Please note that overriding the CKEditor 5 version may cause compatibility issues with custom plugins that are maintained by the community or custom-built for your site. Proceed with caution and thoroughly test compatibility and functionality in your development environment before deploying changes to production.
