CKEditor is dual-licensed. This means you can choose between an open-source and a commercial license.

Open source license

The open-source distribution of CKEditor 5 is licensed under the terms of GPL 2+. If you are running an open-source project with an OSS license incompatible with GPL please contact us – we will be happy to support your project with a CKEditor 5 open-source license that works for you.

The following features are available for the GPL-compliant projects, but their availability varies depending on the commercial licensing plans:

Commercial license

The commercial license unlocks many benefits. All commercial plans include:

  • No GPL restrictions,
  • White-labeling (except the free plan),
  • Technical support (except the free plan).

Additionally, depending on the plan you choose, you gain access to Premium features such as:

Some premium features are included in selected pricing plans, while others are available as add-ons depending on the selected deployment model and plan.

Visit the CKEditor 5 Pricing page to find out more or start the 14-day free trial.

CKEditor 5 commercial plans are available with different distribution models:

Cloud-hosted distribution

Cloud-hosting is available in self-service and custom plans. The packages are managed and hosted through a CDN, providing quick setup and maintenance-free deployment.

Self-hosted distribution

Self-hosted distribution is available with custom plans, allowing you to host CKEditor 5 on your own infrastructure. This option provides greater flexibility and complete control over your deployment environment.

CKEditor 5 LTS Edition

CKEditor 5 LTS Edition provides an extended support cycle of up to three years with security updates and critical compatibility fixes, without introducing breaking changes. It is available entirely under commercial terms and follows the same licensing model as our commercially licensed functionalities.

While the source code of the LTS-only distribution (meaning the versions available only to LTS Edition customers) will continue to be published in our public repositories, the LTS-only distribution cannot be used under GPL.
To learn more about using the LTS Edition, please visit the dedicated guide in our documentation or contact our sales team for details.
