I'm using firefox 1.0, and I've got an FCKeditor inside a div with the following stylesheet info:
.window {
background-color: #fff;
border: 1px solid #c1cdd8;
color: #006;
z-index: 101;
}
The drop down is being rendered behind the .window div. Anyone know why? What can I do to fix this.
Thanks,
Dave

RE: zIndex problem with Font dropdown
RE: zIndex problem with Font dropdown
in this case FF and IE behaves differently.. *shock of a lifetime* but anyways.
According to w3 z-index is supposed to be able to have a negative or positive value, but according to the CSS2 specifications the z-index property needs an "integer" value.
The CSS2 standard'd definition of integer is kind of blurry reference:
"Some value types may have integer values (denoted by <integer>) or real number values (denoted by <number>). Real numbers and integers are specified in decimal notation only. An <integer> consists of one or more digits "0" to "9". A <number> can either be an <integer>, or it can be zero or more digits followed by a dot (.) followed by one or more digits. Both integers and real numbers may be preceded by a "-" or "+" to indicate the sign.
Note that many properties that allow an integer or real number as a value actually restrict the value to some range, often to a non-negative value. "
The point is, FF uses the zindex: 0 for its background, so if you set a negative zindex in FF the layer renders behind the background of the browser. IE doesn't.
Who's following the standards ? I dont know.
I'm working on a solution but i'm not very good with javascript, and I assume the boxes are rendered with javascript, so maybe there's a way to set the z-index of the dropdown/color-swatch dialogs using javascript.
Just a thought...
Re: zIndex problem with Font dropdown
Hmmm ... I'm digging this old post out, since I have found the same issue today, after downloading FCKeditor. Working perfectly in IE 7 but the popups are going behind in FF (I'm using DHTMLgoodies' modal dialog box as the FCK container).
Will be glad if someone shares how he / she has got over this. In a different thread I found a discussion about compressing the code ... I'm using php, probably that was more about Java.
I found some other discussions elsewhere as well, without any reply. Is this an unsolved issue yet? Related posts that I found:

Edit: I've solved this. For others to help you save some time ...
In fckconfig.js, around line 93, you will find
I've added a zero after the z-index, making the line
And that's it.
