user can't type in fckedit window

I have a strange problem a user is reporting to me. I am running an installation of ELGG (the social networking engine) that has FCKEdit incorporated as its blog posting tool. Overall, it works quite well - most users are able to use it with no problems. However one user is having a problem I'm wondering anyone has run across this. She can place an emoticon in the text area window, but can't type in the window. Anyone run across this? She is using IE7 on aWin XP machine. Any help appreicated.
