The forums are not using the nice WYSIWYG editor?

I've registered so I can see a REAL demo (with a submit button), but the editor is not here...

Not really. This forum uses BBCode which is a form of markdown. CKEditor is a WYSIWYG editor and not a markdown editor. As far as I know there isn't a BBCode plugin for CKEditor and the devs are likely too busy developing CKEditor to implement it on all their sites.

The editing area on these forums works just fine and setting your own demo up is trivial so I don't see the merit in your complaint.
