getting spell checker to work

I've tried to make sense of the 'M$ Word' spell checking facility in v1.6 but can't.
I've also tried to add the code in for Aspell with the interface by Hunter Beanland, but am stuck with that too.

Any advice?

We have word installed on the server, and use off2k at desktops.
