detect button click (for ANY button)

I'm not sure if I should interpret a lack of any replies as meaning that this is not possible or that no one here knows how to do it. If anyone knows that this is definitely not possible, please let me know so I can cease trying to find a solution. If there is a way to do it, any help would be appreciated.
