Fckeditor is used in a lot of places...
So I thought this would be a good place to ask: what's the best open source CMS available?
I've tried Joomla: a bit too complicated.
The average user doesn't need to have something that looks that daunting.
I've heard of others, but haven't really tried like Xoops.
Any recommendations would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: What's the best open source CMS...?
a bit off-topic, but ... I would normally recommend Joomla - the perceived complexity by clients can be easily removed when you have skill enough to hide unneeded buttons - check out the editing workflows by logging into front end & editing via front end - It could not be simpler. Going through backend though will be intimidating for some people.
I think this is definitely the best CMS for the long haul, but will require some investment of time to get familiar.
If you found joomla complicated, you will have no chance with drupal.
I havent heard of ModX or Etomite.
A knowledgable friend uses http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/ - I agree that this does look very simple & easy to use, though much less features that joomla.
The trouble is that everyone wants something "easy" - theres no such thing. No matter the solution, you (or the customer) are always going to have to learn a few new things. This problem is made worse by almost every application claiming to be "easy". Clents see this so often that they learn to think they will be able to walk into the most sophistocated website setup, wave a magic wand & all will be fine. No, they always need to learn some basic new things with each CMS, and some generic stuff to do with html & the web in general.
About 50% of my budget for each CMS I develop is for client training - its not what they want at first, but its what they need. They soon learn the benefits & are usually much grateful for the knowledge.
Re: What's the best open source CMS...?
I am actually currently building a CMS for what many people seem to want it for (which is hardly what a CMS really is, and why I renamed it to somthing different)
I call it an SUMS - Site Unit Management System. Its like a macro replacement system for your website, so that you can define certain sections to be editable via a WYSIWYG backend. I will be using FCK editor for that WYSIWYG editor part, the rest will be with PHP (no mysql needed.)
Anyways, it is in the early development stage. After the initial release it will be open source. I hope to use the BSD license, however I need to find out if that is possible with FCK.
I will be posting updates here http://www.bluesfear.com/forum/index.ph ... opic=30363 if you are interested.

They are basically the smae. Etomite was the original and ModX is a development fork. I think ModX has more people behind it thou.
