Tell Fckeditor to not format a section of text?

I am trying to add source code formatting to part of my site... and even though I am currently sticking it in PRE tags, fckedit always formats it with br's etc.

I built a plugin to insert text however, is there a way to tell fckeditor to not format text inside of [code block?
