So I have yet to see a satisfactory answer as to whether or not you can "disable" the editor. By disable I mean it in the sense that you would disable a normal form element so that it's value does not get posted when the form is submitted. I have integrated FCKeditor in a CMS I am working on and I have tabbed interface that allows them to switch between different editing modes and naturally the Fckeditor powers the WYSIWYG tab. The problem is that i only want whatever tab they are on to get posted since each tab defines the content to be posted.
My solution is to disable all form elements on all tabs except for the one that is currently selected. This works fine except for the FCKeditor. I am aware of the following solution:
fckeditor = FCKeditorAPI.GetInstance('fck_content');
fckeditor.EditorDocument.body.disabled = true;
But this does not seem to suppress the data from posting when i am on the other tab. Do I simply need to remove the editor entirely from the DOM? I would like a more graceful solution. Thanks.
