Slow Loading-any improvement in load times?

We are currently using an older version 2.3.1

Have there been any improvements in the latest stable 2.4.3 version for quicker loading?

Has anyone created a script a to preload the icon images or come up with any other
workaround to make it load faster.

I would like to keep using FCK but the slow loading problem, especially when the network is
running slower than normal is really starting to be an issue.
