I downloaded Version 2.0 RC2 (Release Candidate 2) - as is displayed on the page fcdeditor/_docs/whatsnew.html of the files I downloaded.
I unzipped the files into FCKeditor on my system - wanted to try it out locally first.
Surprise, the zip file was created in such a way that it creates FCKeditor and then puts all the other directories under it.
So I had /FCKeditor/FCKeditor/
Resolved that by moving everything to the top level "FCKeditor"
That should be resolved - the zip should be created so that there is no top level directory. Then the instructions given online should specify that you should create FCKeditor and then unzip the package there.
Having been burned before by people who did not create zipped files with top level directories, which results in all the directories and files winding up under the HDD root if you "target" the root directory, I NEVER unzip a file to the root directory.
I always specify a target directory. The way this thing is zipped you then have to mess with moving everything to the correct directory.
Well, I then went to the docs. Read them, then went to /FCKeditor/_samples/default.html - oh, yes, I tried this in Netscape 7.1, I.E. 6.02, and NS 4.8 - doesn't work in any of them.
In NS 7.1, my default browser, the display looks a bit like the online demo but no tool bar, just two frames. A select in the top frame and a textarea in the bottom frame with the sample text - nothing else.
Checked Javaconsole - found:
Error: uncaught exception: Error loading "../fckstyles.xml"
Thought -- hmm, must be missing something. Went back to documentation... found nothing to point at a resolution.
Okay, maybe something is set up somewhere in the code that this is not going to work on a local system - I can't think of anything that might cause this - but thought I'd upload to a server and try it there.
I uploaded everything - all directories and all files - to directory FCKeditor right off my root on the server .
Tried the sample again - now it is complaining about invalid statement in one of the .js files.
Did not bother to save those messages.
I tried renamed the FCKeditor directory to fckeditor - case counts some times, worth a try. Still didn't work.
Sat staring at it, threw a book against the wall, scared two cats, spent ten minutes making it up to them, used a large chunk of my vocabulary built up in the Navy and then 33+ years in data process and then decided to see what forums existed.
Came here, jumped through all the hoops to get a userid, and am now posting the message.
What am I missing here? Or this package less than it is billed as?
Just what the !_^~ is wrong here?
Oh yes - is there any way to get the folks supporting this site to enlarge this dinky little textarea provided for entering messages?
It's only set to rows="10" cols="50"
That's awfully small.
I wound up writing this message in Notepad, turning off word wrap, copying it to the clipboard and then pasting it into this itty bitty textarea.

If those are representative of the assistance here I'll be leaving.
Won't bother returning it, will simply delete it and forget I ever heard about it.
Really insightful assistance you offer here.

Of course this won't work as everything is based around using a relative path.
