As usual, no answer here, no support....

but I helped myself:

in filemanager/connectors/php/config.php, I set the Path manually:

$Config['UserFilesAbsolutePath'] =  "/path to directory with dot/domain-name.tld/domain-name.cms/images/stories";

now it works

maybe something for the documentation????
maybe something which should be kept in mind when using preg_match or preg_replace????
