Replacing and inserting text into the editor

I have a perl spell checking script that I have been using with textareas. I am able to get the text from the fckeditor to the perl script without a problem. how do I get the correct string back from the perl script to the correct fckeditor instance?

Also, is it possible to insert text (via javascript) at the current cursor position?
