Hi all I am experiencing a weirdness and wondered if any one can help me out?
I am using the updatepanel with click back events to minimize refreshing the whole screen.
I don't know how to describe this without doing a thesis. I will try not to do that.
When the screen 1st loads it loads a list of current content pages to select from. It also has a button to allow adding of a content page.
If I click the add button it will do a click event on the server and will hide the list from view while blanking out the input fields (fckeditor.Value="") and displaying the form inputs on the screen.
This works. So I go through the various input fields in the various areas. 1st area has the fckeditor. When I click save. The click event is fired. It determines it is an Insert into the database (not an edit) then builds the appropriate transaction for sql server and saves the data.
No errors happen. However, the fckeditor value never saves.
When I debug and step through the codebehind, I look at the fckeditor.Value and it is "" --> blank. even though I entered data.
Is there something that I need to do to ensure it is syncing up?
Also to be even MORE weird. If i run in edit mode (clicking event edit on list, hide list, unhide input fields just like adding except I retrieve data to fill in the inputs fields) When retreiving data from the database and place it in the various fields (fckeditor.Value=db["content"]) make changes to the fckeditor data and click save. It WORKS.
So going along with this... I then said well what if I set it to initial value for the "adding page" fckeditor. So I went through and set it to "My test". I then tried to change it when I clicked Add. Stays the same...
I am thinking this might be a .NET issue? I am not sure...as I am beginner level with .NET (former classic asp)...
If it was a .NET problem you think it would have the same inpact on my other fields but ALL my other fields are fine when "adding" I can retreive and retain their value when the save click event happens. It is Fckeditor that is not retrieving or retaining its value.
Purely baffled!
Thanks for helping
Angela
Any ideas would be appreciated...

Bug? .NET Code Behind with Ajax and DOM Programming
I developed my own tabs for filling out the information Step 1 shows with fck editor Step 2 shows configuraiton settings Step 3 shows topics to file it under.
So when Step is showing step 2 & 3 input fields are hidden and so on.
To do the Tab clicked area (allowing them to switch the informational view) I used <asp:linkbutton with on on click event for each tab which goes through and hides and show the appropriate area.
Now when I go from Step 1 by clicking on the Step 2 linkbutton. I put a break point in the page_load event and see that when I do that the value for the fckeditor is NOT retained. However the value for my title which is a textbox is retained.
Which leads me to the conclusion that the Fckeditor is not working properly with the linkbutton control.
But I could be wrong as I said I am new. But when looking up the linkbutton control it says it posts back to the server just like the button. Meaning it is not a hyperlink. It is suppose to be re-submitting form values back to the server when it is doing an onclick event.
Bug with fckEditor? or .NET? or misunderstanding on my part?
Don't know how I am going to fix this...but I will try... Would like to know if this is a bug though or if I am misunderstanding something. So any clarification is appreciated.

Re: Possible Bug with <asp:linkButton ?
I had similar problems with fckEditor and updatepanel and found this helped

Re: Possible Bug with <asp:linkButton ?
What I did, I haven't fully tested it, is replaced my LinkButton with a Button in .net this seems in basic testing it to solve the problem. I just had to come up with some styles to make it look not like a button.
But hopefully this will work solidly, and I will report back to say whether or not I had to implement your solution or if the Button worked.
But I definitely am keeping that link filed that you gave me.
So thanks again!
