Which version are you using for this? I just tried the same test on FCK 2.6.5 and it automatically stopped hyperlinking as you would expect.

Hi

I am using CKEditor 3.0.2. I noticed the same problem actually happens on the CKEditor demo tool on the CKEditor website.

Any thoughts on how this issue can be fixed?

The only workaround I can recommend is to first type the text of the link, then go back and highlight it, then apply the link. However, I am not sure what will resolve this particular issue.
