Fckeditor seems the ultimate tool, but I don't know, how to install. Am I alone with this problem ? (This is not my question, this is only my astonishment)
I use winxp. I've got a lot of files, I cannot see any exe among them. How can I get the intall start? Thank you if you worry about my question.

Pleeeeease...

Re: How to install fckeditor?
He asks how to install it, and someone says 'If you are searching for an exe, then you have the wrong idea about FCKeditor'. But no explanation! What is wrong with people?
I am trying to use FCKEditor - but how on earth are you supposed to use it?
It's sat there in a folder.
So????
OK I have learned that there is no exe program. Apparently it just works by magic?
Why on earth isn't there a simple explanation of how it works - nothing in the forum, or the wiki, nothing on the website. Why keep it secret?
Re: How to install fckeditor?
right there on the front page of the wiki - http://wiki.fckeditor.net/FCKeditor
Cheers. Scott.
Re: How to install fckeditor?
Basically, there is no "install". You extract the files contained within the .zip file into the root directory of the website you are working on, make some modifications to the application.cfm, jsconfig.js, and two of the config files (explained in the wiki), and test. Well, at least that's all one has to do if you're using it in ColdFusion - not sure about the others, like php or asp.

Re: How to install fckeditor?
I still haven't a clue, and I've only been web editing for ever.
What on earth does this program do, then?
I have web sites. Do I just include a line of code, and FCKeditor kicks in?
Actually it's already too much effort! I thought maybe it was a drop in editor for ready written web sites, but if I've got to guess everything....
I read that page and it doesn't really explain anything to me.
I find that really odd, why not shout your wares and explain!!!
Cheers!
Re: How to install fckeditor?
What I did for my website:
1. Expanded the .zip file into the root of my web directory.
2. Opened http://wiki.fckeditor.net/ to get the instructions.
3. Clicked on the link for "Installing FCKEditor" and saw that I pretty much already did what it said to.
4. Clicked on the link for ColdFusion and followed those instructions, which were:
a. Modify the specified lines of the /FCKeditor/jsconfig.js file
b. Modify the specified lines of the /FCKeditor/editor/blahblahblah/cfm/connector/config.cfm file
c. Modify the specified lines of the /FCKeditor/editor/blahblahblah/cfm/default/browser/config.cfm file
d. Modify my application.cfm file to include the lines as instructed by the wiki (setting application scope variables)
e. Modify my application.cfm file to also set the same variables in the request scope
5. Used the sample code in the wiki to get it to work within the form I created:
And tested it. Had to do SOME tweaking, but it works. If you've been web editing "forever", then it really isn't difficult. Maybe slightly time consuming, but not difficult.

Re: How to install fckeditor?
Poor me, and poor us...
I suppose, jnorris235 you are looking after the same thing: a good and free wysiwyg homesite-editor. I still don't know what the fckeditor does. I suppose, that is a site you can use inside the homesite for the users. Like guestbook, but much more advanced. I don't know, why it is difficult to explain, maybe it takes some years of higher education to understand what the fckeditor is. Never mind: I feel instinctively that is not what we want. I found the best editor: First page on http://www.evrsoft.com/ It is freeware, but I beleive, it is better than Dreamweaver. That is perfect both for beginners and advanced users.(I didn't use it, I just opened it, so maybe I'll be disappointed)
Re: How to install fckeditor?
Best of luck with that. I still think FCKeditor is a decent plug-in. Not the easiest to troubleshoot, semi-easy to install and configure, but it works well, for me.
Well, except for the Flash issue I'm having, but I'm working on finding a fix for that.

Re: How to install fckeditor?
This editor seemed like a great answer, but as long as there's nothing but guesswork involved in setting this editor up, I'll be looking elsewhere.
The "support" here is as whack as the documentation.
Re: How to install fckeditor?
For this setup all you do to "install" the editor is copy all the files from the zip package into a relevant folder of your site (C:\mysite\FCKeditor etc). This is then "installed" in your site. Make the modifications in the config files as it says in the wiki (altho I haven't done this yet) and then just follow the relevant guidlines from the support pages for your server technology to initiate the editor in a web page.
I did that and basically copied the initiation code from the wiki and dropped it into my page, then played around with some of the options.
I'm going to be using it to allow people (once logged in) to update portions of their site on the fly, from a web browser, less like Dreamweaver and more like (Adobe) Contribute. I do all my development on the desktop (Dreamweaver or Visual Studio) and then publish to a server elsewhere as usual.
Hope that helps mate, I've been on forums before (not this one) where you get no answers and end up scrapping the use of what seems like a decent bit of kit, just cos of some startup queries, pain the backside to say the least!
Let me know how you get on dude cos like I said I'm a noob and we'll probably come across the same issues if you decide to stick with FCK.
Hope that helps.
