How do i nest lists? (indent button is not available)

Ho do i make nested lists?

The only way i have found is to use the indent button, but that's not available in this case.

Using the indent button on other content litters the content with unwanted inline styles, so its not activated.

Is there a way to nest lists without the indent-button, perhaps with some keyboard trick?

Or at least some way to make the indent button disabled on all other content than lists?

I really need to get this working, as it is a live site and i never anticipated this problem.
