Hi all,
I dont know much about FCK and my boss want me to check it out and see if it can be implemented to our portal. I posted a few questions here but received only one reply (with very general info which already posted in the main forum). My questions are:
1) Is this a fairly new editor in the market along with Activedit?
2) If it is I can understand why there are not so much responses to questions & issues, but if it is not, am I posting the question in the wrong place (main forum not support)?
3) I wonder if no one here is using FCKeditor or alike never have to tweak the code so when time to upload the doc it can be sent to a db table via somekind of queries? Since I am not all that familiar the the architecture of FCK just yet, could it be done fairly straight forward? If it is, can some how show me where to start?
I hope I get some replies here in this forum. Thanks

Re: General Question
I don't know about Activedit, but if you look at the download statistics (see "View Statistics" link on right side of homepage) for FCKeditor, you will see that it's been around (downloadable) for about 4.5 years. So I wouldn't say it's new in the market by any means.
You are posting your question in the right place. The lack of responses may mean one of a couple different things. It could be that nobody knows the answer to your question. It could be that someone who knows is too busy answering other questions and hasn't gotten to your question yet. It could be that someone who knows has their own non-FCKeditor-related job that takes up all their time and limits their ability to post answers here. And it could be that someone who knows has already developed their own solution after reading the documentation and source code, but never took the time to look here in the forum and thus has never seen your question.
FCKeditor uses "connectors" (at least, that's what I call them based on the some filenames for the server browser) for uploading files to a server. If you need to upload to a database, you may have to try to write your own connector functionality, as well as add a button and support Javascript for the editor's toolbar.
First things first though, I suppose. Which framework/platform/language are you using? If you're using .NET, you will have to download the .NET source to see exactly how the .NET connector works. Other connectors' sources are already in the FCKeditor installation. Just dig down through /FCKeditor/editor/filemanager/browser or .../upload to see some code.
One thing that you may end up having to do for simplicity sake is 1) upload the file to the server using FCKeditor's upload functionality; then 2) write a page that specifically goes to the upload directory, opens the file and puts it in the database. It's a bit round-about, but it may be the quickest route to get where you're going (as opposed to developing a custom upload solution).
I hope this helps somehow, even if it doesn't exactly provide a complete solution.

Re: General Question
My environment is Coldfusion & SQL server under Window platform.
I was thinking of adding a separate db insert cfm page(mydbUpload.cfm) when the form action (in fck_link.html) get involked along with onSubmit="return CheckUpload(). So the code gonna be like:
<form id="frmUpload" method="post" target="UploadWindow" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="mydbUpload.cfm" onSubmit="return CheckUpload();">
Does this sound like a good place to add additional db code and how/when does \filemanager\upload\cfm\upload.cfm get involked ( I havent found where just yet)?
Thanks

Re: General Question
I have tried my way and i did not even get a hit on mydbUpload.cfm. Where does it goes after checking for upload file (in fck_link.js)? I also see a folder upload with upload.cfm file but I cant find how it is triggered. The only place has any ref on it is the test.html and I am not even sure it is being used in the app.
Thanks
Re: General Question
One more thing I am curious about is your application. What are you doing that you can have image files on one server, but other files in a database? I'm mostly trying to see if trying to re-configure FCKeditor to handle your different file types is the best way to go about this. It may be that you would be better served writing your own custom CFM upload utility to put files in a database.

Re: General Question
at this stage i'm not interested in separating the file types...eg.. pdf, jpg...etc.
i'm after a solution of how to upload to a mysql db,
i have build a page that connects to the db and u can browse for a file to upload and click on the upload button which then uploads the file in byte stream, the name, size, and type of file (pdf..jpg..etc..)
how do i implement this into fckeditor 2.6.3??
