This bug/feature has been mentioned a few times before, and the answer has been "put in the CD". I get asked this question all the time on the sites where I use FCKeditor. I'd rather know how to avoid it in the first place. I'm willing to turn off any Office-specific features to make this happen, but I can't figure out what's causing it. Has anyone figured this one out?

RE: Fixing The Office Bug
My understanding is that, with users of Microsoft Office 2000, there is a bug that starts Office 2000's installation process whenever Internet Explorer displays the embedded DHTML editor component. The only workarounds are to either insert the CD and allow it to go through the installation process, or to change the HTML Source Editing feature from "Install on first use" to "Install".

RE: Fixing The Office Bug
If you install the latest office updates it will also not happen.
