Entitiy convertion not working when using BBcode?

Is it normal that special chars are not converted to entities when using the BBcode plugin?

I thought I was doing something wrong first but then I noticed the online demo at http://nightly.ckeditor.com/latest/cked ... bcode.html doesn't convert them either. Is this a bug or does this have a specific reason and how can I get CKeditor to convert special chars to entities when using BBcode.
