What does mean
Enable XHTML support
in the config file ?

It means Mozilla will try to use XHTML (XML application) instead of HTML 4.01 (SGML application) (eg. you get <br /> instead of <br>). At the same time, Mozilla will set "_moz_dirty" attribute in tags that have been changed.

Dunno about IE though.
