Displaying a custom xhtml tag in wysiwyg

I wrote a plugin which puts a custom xhtml tag <myinput data="foo"></myinput> in the editor's content. It shows up in the source view, but not in the wysiwyg view. Is there a way (perhaps with CSS) that would allow me to see a box or outline where this tag is located? Thanks in advance.
