Default <p> tag on everything

Hi, I'm using the FCKEditor in my own custom cms...

Every field I enter using the FCKEditor gets the <p>blahblahblah</p> tags tacked on to the beginning and ending. Is there a way to disable this?

To elaborate.. I'm trying to add a link... a whole instance of fckeditor is being initiated just for adding the link... but the link always comes out as <p>link</p>

I don't want it to be a link like <a href="link"></a> I just want the plain text of that link...
