Can you use the File Picker OUTSIDE of an editor instance

I would like to use the "file picker" to replace a standard "Browse" button (<input type="file"...) so that users can designate previously uploaded files.

Is there any documentation on how to call this particuluar bit of code? ... and handle the return? examples?

btw... I was able to popup the browser with the following code, but being bit shallow on my Javascript, I don't know how to catch what ever event(?) is occuring when you select a specific item nor how to get the path back to the text field.
