CKE Undo button breaks if editor is loaded in read only mode

the undo/redo buttons never get enabled if editor is started in readonly mode and then set to read+write. I made a trac ticket https://dev.ckeditor.com/ticket/9290 out of this as well, but would anyone have a workaround or a fix to the issue?
