enable multiple image upload?

I don't know what the heck I did, but the other day the multiple image upload was working fine and now it's only allowing me to upload one image at a time. I have verified that the problem is not with ckfinder.js, so is there a config setting elsewhere that can determine whether multiple image upload is on or off? I'm not seeing anything obvious in my settings.
