The Gallery plugin is enabled by default and it uses Colorbox to display images (but you can add any other popular JavaScript lightbox gallery, too).
Use the View option from the file context menu to view an image -- previously each image opened in a new browser tab or window, now they are displayed in a lightbox, in a slideshow that lets you move from one to another without closing the previous one.

It's only working in IE when using classic ASP, and it makes it hard to maintain my manual for my customers

Check CKFinder 2.2
Multiple file uploads should work there in other browser like Firefox, Chrome, without flash.
If you decide to remove just the flash uploader, use:
