I am having a similar problem although I am still trying to integrate ckfinder & ckeditor into my site, so it may be a configuration issue still.
I cannot upload any files, I always get "It was not possible to complete the request due to file system permission restrictions." and I cannot see thumbnails.
GD is installed, folders are chmod 755 and files are 777, safe_mode is off. I don't know where else to look. I even manually created my _thumbs folder and still no love.
I'm about to totally give up on ckfinder unless I can figure this out.
@ circul8tion - upload some files via FTP to your "files" directory to see whether you have pointed CKFinder to the correct folder - did CKFinder show you all uploaded files? If not, then probably CKFinder is configured to use different directory with incorrect permission.
I already had files in my "files" directory. It took me a very long time to tweak the settings to get the the path right because i was trying to do it outside of the php configuration. But I got it pointed to the right location, to see that the files are all depicted as question marks. I assumed this was because they had been there in advance rather than being uploaded through ckfinder. But when I tried to upload I get the error message I mentioned.
I also created the _thumbs directory to see if that would help, but it did not.
I'm having the same problem with CKFinder showing question marks instead of the thumbnails. Did you have to add a thumbs directory? Does CKFinder handle thumbnails automatically? I wasn't clear on your solution. You said your hosting server wasn't updating automatically? Please clarify. Thanks.
Sorry for my bad english, when I know that I have a TOIC test in some months, it's don't will win.
Apparently, my hoster have differents server where are stored my website. And when you navigate on the website it's not always the same server.
So, if the hoster don't update all servers at the same moment. It's possible that you naviget yet on a server don't update.
I have say this because before the update, the security configuration of my hoster was incompatible with cfinder. So I have done a request for update the configuration.
Thanks for the response. I don't have the same problem with the host, but I am still seeing the question marks. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these and show the image previews? Thanks.
You need to open your own thread and post there what are the details about your configuration and what you have tried so far. No one is psiquic here to read your mind and using other people threads won't help you unless you have the same configuration and you have already said that you don't.

I did open my own thread, genius. Why bother posting if you have nothing productive to offer? Also, I may not be "psiquic", but I do know how to use spell-check...
