I pasted my emailed license code in the file in place of the other code that checks for the license and above the code that sets it to demo mode if the license is not there, and it is still not working.....help??

I am not sure if I have understand you correctly , but you have messed something in your config file?
I think that the easiest solutions is to replace your config file with original (please backup your config somewhere) from CKFinder zip archive.
Than you can paste your license name and license key to proper place.

I finally got it to work by placing the license name and key in the following places
{ //set CKFinder to demo mode
$GLOBALS['config']['LicenseName'] = '';
$GLOBALS['config']['LicenseKey'] = '';
}
is that correct?
