Coldfusion Image upload issue

I am using a the older fckeditor with the ckfinder and it works fine (coldfusion 7). I just moved a site to a new host and the image upload function now gives errors. I have contacted the host and they said it is a permissions issue they don't allow the java method used for uploading files. Does anyone know if the new version uses cffile instead for uploading? Or is there a known workaround I can't seem to find that will get me over this hurdle. Thanks
