insertText method, what's the equivalent for that in FCKEdit

Unfortunately I can't help you with FCKeditor.

FCKeditor is old, so it lacks many features and methods of the current CKEditor. If you want them you must switch to CKEditor or learn the sources of FCKeditor and add yourself anything that you need.
