Where can I find an API reference for plugins

I'm trying to create a simple image upload plugin (I can't seem to find one anywhere. I just want to browse for a local file and have it appear on in the editor.). I'm having a heck of a time making heads or tails of the code. Is tehre anywhere where I can find the API for making plugins (or at least a command reference)?

Yeah I've gone through that. I've written a small one but at the moment I'm trying to figure out how to upload an image to the server and then reference it in the code. I've hacked up the original image upload module so that it does more or less what I'm looking for but I want to put it into a plugin. I've also been asked to have the image have 2 <br/>s after it. *sigh* is there any plugins around in js that upload a file?
