Has anyone compiled a version of this editor with a better name? It looks like a fine product, but I wouldn't want to install something with such a vulgar name on my computer.
That's really odd! You like the product, but don't like the name! I didn't use Flash or FireWorks or Photoshop because thier names sounded good. Let me tell you something, once upon a time there was an editor called sh*t editor, and took straight five starts at hotscripts for quite a time. Don't be "temperamental", Mr. Frederico Caldeira Knabben did (and still doing) his best to make this as good as it could be. Not forgetting other developers, whom efforts are truly appreciated.
You would have really freaked out during the earlier beta testing that was being managed with the help of Brian Thomas Talbot. Back then we called it BTT FCK.
FCKeditor is simply named after the creator's initials. I do agree however that from a marketing perspective we might want to choose a different name. I've had more than one friend/client feeling awkward over the name until I explained it. And even then I think they thought it a little strange.
And also, we should ban anyone with the initials BTT from joining the project
You know ... it would probably be a good thing to add a little blurb on the website explaining where the name comes from. It would be helpful to people who are considering using the editor. (It might already be on the site, but I was unable to find it)
It is indeed unfortunate that the good author's initials have the same linguistic pattern that coincides with a particular pattern as a vulgar side of the English language.
But human nature is what it is. If this excellent work is to see any marketing blue sky ahead, the name will have to change. It's as simple as that.
To resist that fact on philosophical grounds is business suicide.
Well then I need to chanke my 4 Sourceforge project's names then. I need a new name for FCKNuke, FCKosc, FCKPostNuke and FCKNuke Platinum.
Odd thing is I have not had a complaint about thse names. I picked them so I can be found by people looking for and ingration of FCKeditor into specific web programs.
I, for one say there is already a brand developed, being FCKeditor, and a name change now would be business suicide. It's not objection on philosophical grounds but on solid business experience.
If you knuckleheads would pronounce it the 'eff see kay editor' rather than the fuckeditor your problems would largely disappear.
Besides, this is not an end-user product. Its a tool that developers build into their end user solutions. There's no reason to brand it in the first place.
Its crass of me to say it but you can ask for your money back if you don't think you are getting good value for your purchase price.
What I was getting at is that changing the name now means that people have to rediscover your product all over again. type "FCKeditor" into google and see what comes back. Intended or not it's becoming a recognized name or brand.
I develop with this editor because I think it's the best choice for what I want to do. And I do think it's somewhat of an end user product. Again people look for FCKeditor in products.
I was just a little anoyed with the whole discussion and decided to put my 10 cent in. (2 cents adjusted for inflation)
Funny. I never even thought of it that way. But you can call it what ever you want, a simple find and replace ought to do, it's always FCKeditor to me...

RE: Whats in a name?
Personally I don't mind it, because I live in Italy, and nobody argued about the name

(this does not bother to me either)
