Way to insert timestamp into fckeditor?

I'd like to be able to add a timestamp from the toolbar into the text in my fckeditor, just for convenience. Does anyone know of a way to do this that doesn't involve me writing my own plugin?

I don't think that anyone has wrote such plugin, but you should be able to do it easily. Look at another plugins, for example there's one that allows to insert any html after pasting in a textarea. Just remove that dialog and use only the basic functions.
