While FCKeditor seems to be on track, I've got to say, once again, the software developers are leaving $$$ on the table by NOT providing a SIMPLE installation guide and well-written documentation designed for the VERY USERS they say it's for.
Very frustrating indeed to see content which over-promises the simplicity, and under-delivers. Yes, it's "simple" for a php programmer! But folks, I do not WISH to be a programmer, I do not WISH to dig into your code, nor do I want my clients/friends who use my sites to get frustrated trying to use it either.
So, you say, "then find another editor!" So I can do that. But I see a huge missed opportunity for FCKeditor to bridge the gap--make folks like me take the code for granted, and let us just DO what we need to do to get our sites created, in OUR definition of simple (no screwing around with directories, no messing with .php documents, none of that crap, sorry).
Simple means simple. Then, you reap the TRUE rewards: distribution and if you want it, money for added feature plug-ins, money for service, etc.
When a User needs to dig into the very CODE that the developer says they don't need to know one iota about, in order to change parameters, it's already off-course.
When a PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAM does a poor job communicating how to simply INSTALL and USE the program - and a User has to dig down deep in a Wiki in order to sniff out what he or she needs to do - that's a great indicator that there's not NEARLY enough time spent communicating the features and benefits of the program to the end user.
While I have little doubt that this program has plenty of functionality, if I have to dig down deep and HUNT for the functions, and worse yet--if I have to have one of my friends or clients for whom I create a web page for, then give them the "keys" to update their site with this "simple" FCKeditor--well, it's really a misnomer to call it a pure WYSIWYG Editor. The end result may be WYSIWYG, but getting there is all but WYSIWYG.
Frustrated again by features and benefits, locked in a developer's head, unable to articulate how to USE them,
