I've been think a lot about it since version RC3. I'm ready to implement it, but I don't want to make such a big change in the editor for the final version (the next one).
After that we could think about it. It would be nice.
By the way, this would not make all previous skins unusable. The way HTMLArea/Xinha did it was backward compatible. It would work either way. I think that would be an good approach for FCKEditor too.
Yeah it sounds like a great idea BUT its too late in the dev cycle I think. I just spent a year working on a new release of my own software. I got some great ideas one month before rollout and they stayed on the shelf. At some point you gotta cut stuff off.
I agree. But it is singular feature that would have a great impact on the speed of the editor loading and I would love to see as soon as possible. That said, I wouldn't work on it until 2.0 Final is already out. Something for fun for 2.0.1...
RE: Spped Improvement for final version
It will also render all existing skins unusable.
It loads pretty fast after the images are cached the first time, so personally I don't think it's worth it at this stage (maybe in a future version)
