RequiredFieldValidator in .Net form

I have attached a required field validator to an FCKeditor control on my form. When I enter a value into the text editor and submit the form, the validation control reports that a value must be entered into the editor. If I submit the form again without changing the contents of the editor, all is OK.

Is this a bug or is there a trick to getting this working?
