Open Editor in new window
I'd like to open that full screen editor from the page without first opening an editor on the page, just a popup editor.
can anyone help at all

open new window, maximize it by js and start editor.

That would mean the content i want to edit would have to be saved temporarily somwhere on the server, and upon saving the file the parent window would need to refresh and include the content that was edited

Naw... with a little Javascript you can pass the contents of the editor back to opener.document or parent.document.
