I've added a DisableResourceFolders option to disable /Image /File etc subfolders.
Also added ServerPath as it's own configuration option, which makes it easier to set, particularly on a case by case basis.
If anyone is interested in these additions, let me know I'll commit them to the source tree.

RE: New configuration options for file uploads
I'm interesting in those things. Let me explain how it's work for me (filemanager and upload).
I use 4 servers for datas, 1 for images, 1 for small files (like thumbnails, css, ...), 1 for files, and 1 for big files (flash, movies,....).
While browsing iwant to get the thumbnails corresponding to images but the url are NOT the same, for ex:
http://data.home.org/1/1/11/thumbs/image.png will be the thumbanil of
http://image.home.org/1/1/11/image.png
and for other type of files, it will be something like http://files.home.org/ and http://bigfiles.home.org/
As I say in another post, I can not use direct processing on filesystem but use a personnal class to handle list of files and folder(include size,extension,name,writeable,dir,quotas,..). So I write code to overdefine mcpuk classes..

Will get back onto this sometime in the next few days though, tidy it up, make sure it hasn't broken anything else(!), then commit.
Which of the connectors are you guys using?
