i think it's fine if slavaua wants to start a new forum, because it is a way to give back to the community. it should not be viewed as a competing entity - everybody knows how to use google to search for information, and another repository for FCK info is good for everybody. more valid search results.
it's entirely up to FredCK if he wants to participate or not, but everyone has to be honest and admit, compared to other forum software, the SF forums really leave a lot to be desired. the SF forums are fine for most developers, but the average user has A LOT of trouble dealing with them. a more user friendly forum is a good thing.
flydesign, slamming people for trying to help out is never good.
I don't mind that any person wants to give us good information about FCKeditor, the point is that he is spamming it around. This is the fourth time he posts his forum here.
If he really wants to help the FCK users, let him trust google and build a valuable information resource. Than he doesn't need to post his forum every day on this forums.
stephenrs, I'm afraid you are missing the point. User 'slavaua' has been spamming the forums for the past 2 weeks now, first using innocuous messages, and now with bigger and more asterisks each time.
I don't think anyone disagree that the SF forums could be a lot better. But spamming the existing one, childlishy whinning louder and louder each time is no solution either.
Let's give slavaua the benefit of the doubt, after all on his picture he looks no older than maybe 13, 14 years old. He probably doesn't have much exposure to netiquette.
i would also suggest that some cooperation be put in place between the two forums - some kind of information sharing, or at least cross linking. and maybe if FredCK is in the mood for it, he could even mention it on the official web site - with a disclaimer that SF is still the official forum.
anybody familiar with the Mambo CMS? there are at least 10 forums dedicated to discussing Mambo. it only helps to spread the word, spread the software, and make it easier for people to get and give help. isn't that what forums are for?
oh, ok...i've been snoozing i guess. i didn't realize slavaua was making bad noise recently - i just woke up and saw this last post, and thought "hey good idea".
so it sounds like he's gone about it the wrong way, but i still think it could be time to help crank things up a notch with FCK. the SF forums just aren't doing it justice. it's an amazing project and deserves a better voice/forum.
with some help, i might be willing to host/administer it...
I think this is terrible.. though I do agree that FCK could have a comparable forums. But I just dont like those 'new' forums. Its demeaning and disrespectful and most of all.. those forums dont do this project justice.
if Fred wanted to put up the forums and manage it .. i think he would have done so.
His ignoring the posts here to continue to post his crap puts me in awe.
Was permission obtained? Not likey.
I will continue to post on these forums. Unfriggin real.. the nerve of some people.
We shouldn't expect FredCK to "put up and manage" a forum - he's already doing so much work for this project. The best thing about SF forums is that SF manages them - freeing up developers to focus on development.
FredCK makes a good point that there is so much important historical information here that we don't want to lose, but there is no reason why another forum couldn't help support his efforts and the community as a whole.
I have a standing offer that if one or two other people will volunteer to help admin AND FredCK is OK with it - i will host and administer a more user-friendly forum to complement this one. i don't think i have to list the reasons why there are better ways to manage and follow discussions than that afforded by the SF forums.
I mean no disrespect. stripe-man, your angry tone is not warranted.
How user-friendly a different forum would be is literally of no matter. The data is here at SF. Everyone comes to SF. Balkanizing a product's support network is NEVER a good idea.
Keep it all in one place. Slavaua may have had good intentions but it was a bad idea compounded by the spamming. Thanks for helping but learn from it, kid.
I am not announce that forum as official one, but almost everyone agree that new forum is better than this one. I do not offer to close this forum or something else, new forum is not profitable and it is staying there just to help peoples to get an answer to their problems and I am not getting some money or other profit from it. Just helping other.
Moreover I think that additional forum will only HELP us to build a strong community of developers/users.
About my avatar... No, I am not 13 years old, even not 14,15 or 16. I am old enought to be clear headed and argue argumentally.
And yes, I see a bit of my blame by posting this thread so much, but it is not spam, spam offer some commercial things and sending to sell something. About me - no, I just want to help... Maybe not only for experienced developers but for plain users aswell.
It's true that the SF forum software is not the best, but its good enough, and has one killer feature that (as far as I can tell) phpBB doesn't -- you can subscribe to it as a mailing list. I would never answer questions on a forum if I had to visit it and trawl through each new post. With the SF forums, new posts arrive in my email inbox where I can quickly scan them and reply if I have something to say. It costs me next to nothing to be involved.
If you seriously want to run an FCKeditor forum, you need to match the features of the SF forum. But most importantly you need to do it with the cooperation of the project -- did you even discuss your idea with Fred before going ahead?
It's great that you are interested in FCKeditor, and want to do things to grow the community, but you should discuss your ideas with the community first.
