Well, after days of debugging cleaning and creating various filters for my EXISTING properly coded XHTML code within a variety of databases (db2, SQL Server, mySQL, Access), I have come to the conclusion that FCK editor is NOT quite ready for prime time. Even with through several versions of FCK editor (right up to and including FCKeditor_N). None of which were able to handle properly formatted XHTML (or HTML 4.01 for that matter) that already existed within a database.
Technologies included ASP.NET/C# (2.0 and 3.0) and PHP (5.4.2) -- tried in all three... with Windows XP, Vista, Server2003, Red Hat Linux (Enterprise 5).
In addition, if you have multiple editable areas within your page your client load may (and probably will) far exceed the average RAM that the client may have -- especially with M$ Vista.
Yes, there are tons of ways that you can HACK your way into a solution. But the product out of the box, as I mentioned before, is NOT ready for prime time.

Re: Looking for an editor that can handle existing content...
Perhaps you could give us some code examples?
