This is more of a suggestion than anything else. Now...everyone knows that when it comes to validating a site against a strict DHTML 1.0 doctype that not all tags will validate properly. For instance, lets say you insert a link using FCKeditor and tell it to open the link in a new window. Obviously you'll get a link that uses the TARGET parameter in the A tag. Unfortunately, the TARGET parameter has been depricated and including it on your page will cause your page not to validate properly.

So...the question is, how could FCKeditor be changed to allow better use of DHTML standards? Well, one idea I've had is to substitute certain tag parameters either with a simple CSS code inclusion or have a way to where you can add a JavaScript parameter to just about any tag or element

Here's a couple of examples I've done in the past few months. Let's say I add an image. Obviously I can't use the ALIGN parameter to align my image to the left....but I can use a FLOAT:RIGHT CSS entry. Adding this to the IMG tag is much better than adding a deprecated parameter such as ALIGN. Now, this next one is a little trickier to possibly integrate into FCKeditor. So I add a link to a page...can't use the TARGET attribute....what do I do? Well, FCKeditor doesn't appear to have any way of attaching a piece of Javascript to a link or such. But I can change to source view and add the following script to the A tag of the link:

onclick="window.open(this.href,'_blank');return false;"

This works great and doesn't cause any validation errors. The reason I mention this is because there may be ways to substitute depricated attributes with ones that will work whenever you're using the DHTML parameter in FCKeditor. Plus, there's obviously some workarounds that could be integrated into FCKeditor as well. Hope this info helps!
