I have a strange problem with the a.m. browser. I ran the out of the box sample of FCK Editor under ASP.NET 2.0 Beta 2. Everything is fine with IE 6 and Firefox as client.
The problem occurs with IE 5.5 SP1. It can be reproduced and monitored easily using IEWatch (http://www.iewatch.com/).
Just hit "New File" in an open editor window and watch the HTTP requests issued by FCKEditor to the server. The very first request is empty. HTTP GET to http://localhost/fcktest/FCKEditor/editor with no requested file. Because with IE6 the request is marked as ABORTED (obviously the server is not asked), this is no problem with IE 6. IE 5.5. issues the request as it is and causes Error 403 on a IIS 6. The IIS does not allow "directory listing", hence the request is rejected. The result: A new error window pops up locally...
I cannot figure out, where this malicious request is coming from. Here is the request sequence, on hit on "new":
23:48:28.233 0 ms GET (Aborted) http://localhost/fcktest/FCKEditor/editor/
23:48:28.233 0 ms 1351 GET (Cache) text/css http://localhost/fcktest/FCKEditor/edit ... orarea.css
23:48:28.243 0 ms 156 GET (Cache) text/css http://localhost/fcktest/FCKEditor/edit ... ternal.css
23:48:28.303 0 ms 53 GET 304 image/gif http://localhost/fcktest/FCKEditor/edit ... wright.gif
Any pointer welcome...
