The javascript API includes two methods for retrieve editor instance, one for from out of an external script, and one for from out of editor dialog, which one can be use in custom image browser?
I depends on how do you open that browser. Maybe no one of those methods do apply directly because you are using a more convoluted structure. Check the window that opens your browser and the relationship with the editor, and write that path.
