Create Custom Objects

I have used FCKEditor on a number of websites and I'm working on a new site and using the editor as the base for a content management system. I need to be able to create custom objects that will be replaced at the time the page is served up. Basically I have custm tags like <dirlinks> that I have added to the editor, but I would like them to be displayed in the editor while viewing the page like other objects are. I'd like this to work similar to how flash is displayed as an object in the editor without the actual flash. This will help the client develop custom pages if they can see what the page will look like, rather than needing to view the source to see the code.

OK, let try this from a different direction. What I would like to do, is insert custom images as place holders. One feature would be to insert pre-made images as placeholders for google ads. So, instead of the end user needing to know how to insert their google ads, I can add an option for them to insert a 250x250 ad. This would display as an image in the editor and get replaced by the server when the page is being served. I already have the server-end that replaces the code, I just need to build this into the editor to allow it.
