RE: Can I really use FCKeditor in my website
Agreed with your thoughts...
But I want to know that if i use FCKeditor in my web application just for allowing users to edit an html file with this editor and upload on the server.......than is there any hidden cost(copyright) for this to me....hence if i use this editor on my website just for a simple purpose than is there any problem.................
Waiting for reply,

You can use this code on your site - and charge for it - and there are not copyright issues or hidden fees you will ever need to pay.
RE: Can I really use FCKeditor in my website
The FCKeditor is licensed under LGPL (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGPL) allowing you to even use the editor in a closed environment. Important aspect of the license is that changes to the code need to be published under LGPL as well.
More precision please...
(hello)
But you can only do so if you pay for the Commercial Use only, right ?
If you do, and only if you do, you can tweak the FCKeditor code to your needs.
You can as well take the logo or other links off, and only if you do pay.
You can sell it (library of different softwares), when part to a bigger software.
By "Distribution", do we mean someone who connects to a particular website, "download" this website and use the FCKeditor to participate ? Or are we talking about a website where we can download a software including the FCKeditor feature (like the fckeditor.net, where the FCKeditor software is downloadable) ?
To be honest, I do not really understand when the commercial use (or the Closed Distribution Licence) applies, and when it does not. Please enlighten me.. In my case, it is about a website where fckeditor software will be used as an editor, as a tool to solely participate in this particular website. The code might get tweaked a bit, but the logo and link of the editor I believe should stay. Is it considered as a commercial use ?
Practically, to who shall I make available this code (since I am not selling, or making any Software downloadable)?
Please do not fwd me the lgpl licence,.. I don't understand a word of it
Thanks for your reply,
Best,
John
RE: More precision please...
The LGPL is ok too, but you need to be sure you are ok with all its terms, and only you are able tell us that.

RE: More precision please...
Thanks for your reply,
I get a better idea now of how it goes, and how to understand the difference of these 2 licenses.
From your website (http://www.fckeditor.net/license/commercial)
"* You can remove any file from FCKeditor when integrating it with your product." means
you can only adapt the software to your needs under the CDL... right ?
"* There is no need to distribute the LGPL license along with your product and no reference to it have to be done;" means that when using the fckeditor under LGPL, you need to communicate the LGPL license (practically have a link present and connecting to the LGPL page) ? Or does it mean that your whole website (software in general and content) needs to be under LGPL ?
"* The source code of FCKeditor doesn’t have to be distributed along with your product;"
How practically do you see this in the case of a LGPL (in the case it is used as a service)?
"* No references to FCKeditor have to be done in any file distributed with your product;"
That is understood (e.g. keeping the logo on the Editors).
Sorry for these questions, but well I'm pretty sure, it will enlighten more people than me. Lots of contradictory points are being said about this topic, and the answer coming from you will certainly establish the correct interpretation of it.
Best,
John
PS: from my point of view, work definitely deserves retribution (since yours is a splendid one...), I want to understand though what this LGPL format exactly entails.
How can I use FCKeditor in ASP.NET
I upload the dll in the bin folder, then upload FCKeditor folder with the web.config file but it displays message "The page cannot be displayed" in place of the FCK editor control...
Please somebody help me..that whether i can use it or not...
