I have been using V3 for ages and had no trouble customising the toolbar. But on V4 I can't do it. I've read all the stuff about it, looked at the documentation and read the article in the sticky forum topic FAQS - but that's for V3 and 5 years old so it may not be valid. Anyway : I really have tried to fix this using my own resources, but have failed.
After hours of fillding with config.js
CKEDITOR.editorConfig = function( config ) {
config.toolbar = 'MyToolbar'; config.toolbar_MyToolbar = [
//toolbar config copied from CK Editor documentation
]};
and
CKEDITOR.replace('mvbc_content', { width: '800px', height: '700px', uiColor: '#123456', filebrowserImageBrowseUrl:'ck_dirlist.php', toolbar:'MyToolbar' } );
I have run out of ideas. The editor understands all the directives above except the toolbar one.. I tried an experiment and deliberately typed syntax errors into config.js - bit the editor still runs . It looks like it's not even reading config.js which would explain why my modified toolbar does not appear.
Has anyone got any bright ideas ?
Thanks
First of all, have you
First of all, have you cleared your browser cache after the changes? If CKEditor is not loading the modified config.js file, it might still be reading the old version from cache.
These are the most current resources about toolbar configuration:
If you are still unable to do it by yourself based on these resources (or e.g. StackOverflow answers), you may want to wait till CKEditor 4.5 which will bring a visual toolbar configurator tool :)

Hi Anna
Thanks for your reply. I have found a solution now - thought I had posted a message, but I can't find it. ( The CK forum is as gnomic & unfathomable as the CK documentation )
Yes - I did the cache clear etc... There is no doubt in my mind that it is not reading the config.js. I understand how the the groups , names are configured and I found a list of the "magic" words on another website
So now I set the toolbar when the editor instance is instantiated. This works OK. Bit clumsy though if you have different instances.
Now for CKFinder. Never got that to work on V3 - so wrote my own web file browser. But maybe V4 is easier to figure out.......?
Using a custom config file
Remember that it's possible to declare an alternative to ck_config.js in the ckeditor function call:
customConfig : 'custom.js',
In fact it's often better to do this and leave the original alone since this makes for easier CK version upgrades.
A typical toolbar definition in custom.js might be:
config.toolbar_Basic =
[
['Bold', 'Italic', '-', 'NumberedList', 'BulletedList', '-', 'Link', 'Unlink','-','About']
];
Sorry for asking about other
Sorry for asking about other problem, in my case I'm using full ckeditor and the "[ ]" aren`t read on IE8 and for this reason ckeditor doesn't appear on IE8.
These "[ ]" are read on any version of Crome and Mozilla and also are read on IE10 and IE11, but just on IE8 aren't read.
This url of ckeditor site http://docs.ckeditor.com/#!/guide/dev_browsers say that ckeditor is supported on IE8 too, but I don't understand why it doesn't work on IE8.
What can I make to fix it??
Other question is on this url from ckeditor forums http://ckeditor.com/forums/CKEditor/HOW-TO-GROW-THE-SIZE-OF-THE-CURSOR-BLOCK-WICH-IS-INSIDE-OF-THE-TEXT-BLOCK-IN-THE
I hope you can understand my question and my words. Thanks for your help. Wait your reply.

Similar experiences
I've found that since upgrading the CK version, Hyperframe's editor sometimes won't work in IE8. Whether it works or not seems to depend on the host it's on. I'm not sure if that is an incompatibility in CK itself or in our interface code which is somewhat specialised.
Our answer is pragmatic - if you want to edit online and are using Windows XP, use another browser, after all there are several that work perfectly well. In any case, Mozilla browsers are the only ones that allow dragging of images to rescale, so you won't have that quite useful feature on any version of IE.
A major issue with IE11 is that in some cases it reports itself as IE7, which may break editing altogether. Another reason to avoid using any version of IE for editing.
Thanks for your reply
Thanks for your reply iwrconsultancy. It's rigth, I'm using winxp and IE8.
So IE8 is a obsolete version for ckeditor?? and winxp also is obsolete for ckeditor??
So winxp and IE8 isn't useful now??.
But many people use winxp and IE8 yet, for example I do.
So there are not solutions for my problem??.
On the other hand, please, could you help me how to solve my problem told on this url of ckeditor forum http://ckeditor.com/forums/CKEditor/HOW-TO-GROW-THE-SIZE-OF-THE-CURSOR-BLOCK-WICH-IS-INSIDE-OF-THE-TEXT-BLOCK-IN-THE

Hardly an issue...
Hardly an issue as there are plenty of browsers that still support XP SP3. You are not going to get good page rendering with IE8 anyway since many of the recent css additions aren't supported.
Even on Windows 8, it seems that the majority of people are using something other than IE11 these days. IE11 is certainly better than IE8 but basically Microsoft lost the browser war a good while back.
If you aren't allowed to install software, portable versions may be suitable

Ok, thanks for your reply iwrconsultancy.
Actually, I don't need that my page can perform very good on IE8, I just wanted that my page can perform very good on all the versions of all the browsers, but If my page can't perform very good on all or some versions or browsers, I don't worry.
BUT, ON THE OTHER HAND, please, could you help me how to solve other problem?, it's told on this url of ckeditor forum:
