Odd problem - I click the image button, and put in a URL, say https://www.google.com/images/srpr/logo4w.png. I click ok, and as expected, I get the Google logo.
I click save, and in my CMS I see the image, as expected.
I then open the editor again, and nothing. In source view I see :
<p><img alt="" src="https://www.google.com/images/srpr/logo4w.png" style="width: 550px; height: 190px;" /></p>
So why is the editor blank?

Strange, I tested the same in mine, and I can see the image, so the link is OK.
Yeah, the URL doesn't matter,
Yeah, the URL doesn't matter, it can point to an image on the local domain or remote, be a full or relative path, it won't matter. The image shows up when you first add it, but subsequent loading of the html in to the editor, no images.

Can you select something with
Can you select something with the left mouse button? What do you get with a right-click?
Does it change anything if you remove the p tag on the link in source view?

If I hit ctrl+a, I get no highlight markers, and the bottom path indicator says "body p"
If I remove the p tags, the editor automatically replaces them.
Right click only gives me the option to paste.
Could the picture be
Could the picture be somewhere else on the page or "out of view" or behind another object? Could some css affect how it is treated?
As I was testing some config
As I was testing some config things to try your CSS theory, I remembered I added a couple lines to the config to allow for <i> tags (so we can use FontAwesome with Bootstrap)
Removing this fixed the issue:
config.protectedSource.push( /<i[\s\S]*?\>/g ); //allows beginning <i> tag
config.protectedSource.push( /<\/i[\s\S]*?\>/g ); //allows ending </i> tag
So thank you for the inspiration!
I now, however, have a new issue. This will break the ability to use FontAwesome in my content. Perhaps that's a topic for a new thread?
