4.0 Source code linebreak and indentation chars

In 3.6.5, I was able to set both indentationChars and lineBreakChars to "" and thereby achieve steady stream of code for saving to database without special characters.

In 4.0, these two lines of code do not eliminate line breaks altogether.  It produces something like the following with breaks for each major tag type.  How do I eliminate all breaks?

Example of what occurs:

p>In her writing, she demonstrates both a mastery of subject and an elegance of style.&nbsp; She is adept at the use of technology.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<ul><li>first</li><li>second</li><li>third</li></ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<ol><li>letter one</li><li>letter two</li><li>letter three</li></ol>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>She is a bright, creative, personable, and positive person.</p>
